Communication Systems

One of the most vital aspects in law enforcement is that of communication.  Law enforcement includes the correctional system and the judicial branch.  Each section requires a dependable means to communicate with one another during the course of daily function and work.  Law enforcement police officers must have the ready availability to communicate with other officers and regional headquarters with regard to responses to emergent situations.  Correctional officers demand a communication device much like that for law enforcement due to the complexity and positioning of their jobs.  The judicial branches, courts, require a means of communications in the event of an in court emergency necessitating back up assistance. Without adequate communication devices, each member of law enforcement with respect to its division would be subjected to harm at every turn.  This in turn would leave the general public at risk as well.

Cellular phones and walkie-talkies are the most effect communication devices on the market today.  These forms of communications are marketed to meet the needs of law enforcement and its adversaries.  The Harris Unity X6-100 is a multiband radio that would easily accommodate police officers, correctional officers, and courtroom employees.  The specifications of this device are top of the line (Police Wireless Communications, 2010).  Frequency ranges cover from 136 to 870 MHz, and the model is P25 compliant.  The battery offers an extended life package, and it allows connecters to communicate with responders from any surrounding agency.  The service picks up both analog and digital communications.  Scanning is continuous with the sixteen channel selector featuring 12,500 channel storage capability and ten mission files with 1250 channels each (Police Wireless Communications, 2010).  This walkie-talkie offers a built in Bluetooth, personal tracker, rapid response, full color display screen, grip, large keys, and meets the military standard for submersion.  Finally, this product is a multiband, multimode, all-in-one radio.

Some communities in need of communication devices for law enforcement may not require a product on such a large scale.  Instead, smaller and more rural communities may opt to invest in a cellular phone like the Sprint Blackberry Curve 8530 (Blackberry, 2010).  This small hand held device comes fully equipped with the App World features, data back up, and GPS navigation.  It can store up to 326B images which would come in handy if an officer needed to take pictures of an accident scene.  Web browsing, email, camera, TTY compatibility, and a fully functional keyboard are just a few of the other features within the Blackberry.  Sprint offers packaging for businesses as well as secure connections for processing information.  Each phone comes with a USB cable, AC wall charger, and a lithium battery to guarantee optimum performance.

Both of the products are quite effective communication devices, but each one serves a different purpose.  The multiband radio is more suitable for a larger scale community while the Sprint Blackberry is designed for a more rural setting that doesnt require constant line availability.  Each is attractively priced to meet the budget of the purchasing division.  Officers and employees of the court could relax and feel confident that their purchase was a good one.  Members of the community would be able to relax in knowing that if they needed to get a hold of an emergency official, then it would be more than possible.
