HIV IN PRISONS

In prisons, the main source of HIV transmission is mainly through same sex activities that inmates indulge in as a way of beating boredom or rather satisfying their sexual desires. One can fall victim of sexual molestation as not many people are in prison for the same offences and also because someone just felt that they should be bullied or taught a lesson, and as they are not taken for tests before being remanded, its hard to distinguish who is infected and who is not. They indulge carelessly as they have very little to loose. I believe when people are placed in confinement, the rate of engaging in different practices is very high

Women in prisons also have their problems and difficulties and as a way for one to have a smooth sailing while serving their time in jail, so some of them look for the easiest way, and that is having sex with wardens or even with their fellow inmates if they know it will be their ticket to a smooth time.

Drug addiction is also one factor that may lead one to giving sexual favors, I believe in prison, the mode of exchange is notoriously sex, not caring if the person you are having it with is infected or not. Shooting up drugs among a group of inmates also adds to the risk of inmates spreading HIV amongst themselves.

HIV in prisons
This article gives us the common source of HIV spread and how well or rather the most common, efficient and widely used method of control its spread among a group of people confined in one place for a long period of time.

This article also gives us the most common source of HIV spread, how sex is used for gaining favors and getting some necessities from people who have a way of providing it.

The two articles give us a clear picture of what happens in prisons and how the inmates cope with it or how they try to make life easier for themselves not caring what they have to pay for it.

In the, Condom distribution programme in New South Wales Prison, the most important thing is that they are trying to have a correction practice for the inmates to have them practice a safer way of intercourse and prevent HIV spreading like wildfire in prisons.

In both the articles, the sources know what the main causes and spread of HIV in prisons is by having sex and not using protection. They also have the knowledge that in prisons so many unwarranted things go on, like rape, sexual favors or even same sex relationships as a way of fulfilling sexual desires or just trying to bully and torment others.

The difference between the articles is that one concentrates entirely on minimize the rampant spread of HIV in prisons by giving the inmates condoms so as to practice safe sex, and try to keep on status as they are (Condom distribution programme in New South Wales Prisons). While the another is showing the statistics of the number of women who use sex as a way of gaining favors, and also using one needle among inmates to shoot up drugs (Preincarceration Risky Behaviors among Women Inmates Opportunities for Prevention)

In Kenya, prisons are known to be places that are close to horror movies, where all kinds of people and behaviors are exhibited. The two articles give us a clear view of how people in prisons survive or rather go about their daily lives and what, how they use their available resources to live a day at a time.
I have seen interviews where ex-prisoners are giving horrifying tales of what they had to do just to have a good nights sleep or even to be in a group that was either thought to be the strongest in the prison. Its like there is a government in prison that is commanded by a very mean general who knows who is new, what they are in for and how long they are going to last in confinement.

The distribution of condoms is very essential as it will lessen the spread of HIV and even make inmates know that they have to be more careful in what they do.

Life in prisons is very hard and of the vices that go on in that place, one either comes out reformed or transformed for the worse, all the nightmare that one encounters. Its important to find a way of dealing with a problem instead of waiting for it to happen and then finding a solution, as they say, prevention is better than cure
