Crime Prevention Memo

As of late the number of instances of juvenile crime has risen rather alarmingly as such immediate action must be taken to reduce the number of cases and maintain a modicum of peace in the area. Studies have shown that juvenile crime can be connected to the environment that these individuals grew up, the inner city neighborhoods, the various ghettos and suburban poor housing projects are breeding grounds for individuals stricken by poverty to turn to a life of crime in order to make money to live (Juon 2008). Another factor which leads to instances of juvenile crime is the lack of an appropriate outlet for these individuals to be better than what is expected of them (Champion 2004).

Societal profiling plays a role in influencing a persons behavior wherein if members of society judge a persons future based on his origins then based on this line of thought if a person is judged as criminal based on his origins as being part of the suburban poor even though he is innocent then in all likelihood this person might just turn into a criminal since people dont give him the opportunity to prove otherwise (Caroll 2008). In order to prevent the reoccurrence of such crimes what must be done is to create opportunities for these individuals to expend their energies in more constructive ways in order for them to improve as people as well as show to others that their origins dont matter at all. It is then necessary to necessitate the creation of numerous social programs aimed at these individuals such as sports clinics to entice those interested in sports, automotive workshops to enable some to learn the basics of earning an honest living, the creation of several work study programs that would enable them tom complete an education while at the same time build up their professional career and finally psychological counseling sessions in order to help these individuals come to terms with who they are and what they can do with their lives. If all this is put into place we will be able to see a marked improvement in the status of our area as well as a drop in the number of cases of juvenile crime.
